Question

Why does a man who wants to leave Russia so badly express so much pride in Russian culture?

  1. Because this partly what made him him. The good parts of russia lie inside his character. He wants to leave some parts of russia, but not all of it.

  2. He takes pride in his culture, but wants to be in a more modern, western setting.

  3. Because he is bored of Russia and wants to move on to another world. Also he's been to America (reluctantly) and he fell in love with it.

  5. Misha is, and will always be a Russian. He was born and raised in country with a lot of national pride and despite his best efforts, he is never able to let go of his connection to his homeland. Also, I Misha's reasons for leaving Russia have to be examined. It's not because he hates Russia, it's because he loves his father and wants to see him one last time.

  6. I thi8nk Russia and Russian culture are two very different things. Russian culture is the very best the country has to offer (Tchaikovsky, Tolstoi, I'm definetly not spelling those names right). Russia itself is what Misha doesn't like. I also think the death of his father makes him want to get away from all the pain Russia offers him.

  7. In my opinion its not russia that he loves at all but the people in it who have been molded by communism just as he has.

  8. Yeah I agree with Matt that Misha wants to leave Russia because it's no longer in the "glory days". His father's age has passed and the new Russia is stuck in disorder. This is why Misha leaves Russia. Btw you spelled Tchaikovsky right Aldis.

  9. It's interesting as a question... but I honestly just think that Misha doesn't know enough about any other culture to take pride in it. He sees Russian culture as good and the constant change of Russian government as a bad thing. For every enemy, he needs something he can see as good to defend.

  10. Because he has lived there all his life. He was born there and he feels like a part of the culture and nation.
