Misha

The character of Misha Vainberg is unlike any character I have read in recent memory. He is funny and yet he is not just an object of humor there are some moments when as a reader you pity him. What makes Misha very funny is just the crazy things he says and does but his attitude about them. For example early on in the book Misha and his friend Aloysha-Bob decide to break into rapping at a resturant. While the image of a 325 pound old russian jew rapping is already comedic it is even funnier because Misha actually loves doing it whenever possible no matter what it may look like. This childish side of Misha also makes him a character you pity and care about. He is really a big child, he acts like one and expresses like one, and you want nothing to happen to Misha. He is so care free and removed from trouble that if something bad were to happen to him i would feel bad because i have been caught up in the unique persona of Misha Vainberg

  1. I agree with what you've said for the most part but as you get farther in the book Misha becomes a bit of a sadsack, but he sure enjoys his pies.

  2. I certainly agree that Misha is a very childish character, almost to the point of being infuriating. It gets a little annoying to have a main character who doesn't stick up for himself in any way and is completely dependent on others.

  3. I agree with with Aldis about Misha not standing up for himself. Being carefree and not standing up for oneself are very different and so far I feel that Misha has been more afraid to deal with problems then carefree. Although I agree that Misha could be described as being carefree, it is not the reason he doesn't deal with problems.

  4. On the subject of the "carefree" debate, it really is odd how Misha acts when it comes to problems. He is afraid to deal with them, like John said, but because of his money and power, he has very little to worry about and should be carefree. One could imagine he gets made fun of for his size and childish air, but it hasn't happened much if at all in the book. Strange...

  5. This is true, I would feel bad if something happened to Misha. He has good intentions (Misha's Children) and really does nothing to harm anyone. I don't think he is carefree though. He has many problems that he deals with by masturbating and such.

  6. I like your comedic references, the author does provide dark humor and comedic relief in this seemingly depressing book.
