You should consider reading what you type before submitting it. So from what I can tell of what you've said. Yes i think his wealth affects how we feel about him, I think that it makes us not feel sorry for him because he's rich. I don't believe in economic determinism so I still feel bad for him dispite his wealth.
I think initially the reader may feel sorry for Misha's girth, but as Misha's character is developed, the reader isn't as sympathetic towards Misha anymore.
Absolutely I think Misha's weigh is supposed to influence our view of him. Personally, however, I have very little sympathy for people who are overweight by their own volition. Therefore, I am somewhat prejudiced against Misha.
Misha's obesity is just an physical manifestation of his personality. He has a need for instant satisfaction and gratification, both of which stem from his high standard of living.
Who is this Merrrt kid? He likes to use CAPITAL LETTERS a lot.
I thought you were Merrrt John anyway I seem to have misinterpreted the question. So in short I think that we should feel sorry for his obesity because he obviously suffers from a severe eating disorder.
I certainly don't feel bad for Misha because he is fat and likes to eat. Misha is slightly self conscious about his obeasity, but I think the gratification he gets from eating is worth any slight lack of self esteem he may feel.
His weight is an important aspect in defining a character. For example his weight makes him seem harmless because we associate fat people as harmless but if the book described him as a 6'2 330 pound body builder than he would be seen as a much more intimidating character.
I agree that with Deeds that his weight makes him seem harmless, or at least like a big child. We don't feel bad for him though because he doesn't seem to care about his girth. Overall though, his weight doesn't make me like or dislike him.
Yes! Society has an incredibly awkward view of overweight people. It's as if it's completely impolite to say anything about anyone's unusually large girth but it's still unacceptable to be unusually large. It puts the reader in an extremely awkward situation. As if finally they say "Okay, so this whole book is written from the perspective of a fat guy, so I might as well get used to it." It makes the reader resent Misha because they're uncomfortable with his body.
In my opinion it is hard to feel bad for Misha because of his weight. I agree with Peter because it does make him seem harmless. His money also makes us not want to look down on him for being fat. Since he is so rich you can't really feel bad for him as much as if he was poor.
